Dear Parents,

Today will you will have received the first semester report card from your child. This is also the time that portfolios are sent home. This is slightly different in grade 5 as our portfolios are electronic and you have had access to them all year. Please take some time to visit them and ask your son or daughter about the many things that they have put onto their site.

Later on in the year the students will take you on a tour of their portfolio. One easy way to look through it is to use the categories on the right hand side of the blog. This is where the students have tagged everything in their portfolio. You will be able to see examples of work that they have chosen to show the Learner profile and also the three units we have done throughout the year. Please take a moment to fill in our portfolio reflection form here.

Many thanks to those of you who helped with the costumes for the Lunar New Year fashion show. Without your hard work we would not have been able to create the costumes that we have and I look forward to showing them off at the Lunar New Year festival on the 9th of February.

We also wished Jen our Learner Support Assistant a fond farewell as today was her last day. Thankfully we will still see her later on in the year when she comes in to help.

Have a good Chinese New Year break and I look forward to seeing you all after the holiday.

Warm regards,

Andy

Today we continued working on our inventions research for our timelines. This is our main homework this week. Don't forget to color in your costume design, we are shopping for the materials next week and need to know the colors and accessories you need. Many thanks to all the parents who have been helping out. This letter went out today about next weeks field trip.

Grade 5 Field Trips Letter

Dear Parents,

Grade 5 will be undertaking two field trips in the next few weeks. We will be visiting Sham Sui Po to buy material for our Chinese New Year fashion show and the Leonardo Da Vinci exhibition at the science museum. To help us cover the costs of these excursions we would like to ask all parents to send in 60HKD to cover transport costs. Please send the money to your child’s homeroom teacher by Monday 10th of January.

Many thanks,

The Grade 5 Team

Box Of Hope

11/3/2010

Box of Hope is here again! It would be great if we could have full participation in Grade 5 and help fill up the stage in the MPR. Boxes can be dropped off to school between 15 - 19th November. We look forward to seeing the boxes pile up!

We have some familiar faces and some new faces this year. We are looking forward to our new location and our first year of 1 to 1 laptops in Grade 5. Andy Birch and Stacey Thompson will be the 5AB team. Julie Needham and Kasumi Nakamura will be the 5JN team. Together, we make the grade 5 team.

Some supplies you will need this year:
Your own pencil case with pencils and an eraser
A memory stick (USB) with at least 2GB of memory
You must have a hat (NO HAT, NO PLAY)
Lunch and snack everyday, but Wednesday -- just a snack that day
    Water Bottle
Dressed for PE (5AB - Tuesday and Friday, 5JN - Tuesday and Friday)
Your instrument on music days (Tuesday and Wednesday)
    HW folder everyday

Each grade 5 will have their own class web site this year. These web sites will give you up to date information on all of the activities, schedules, homework assignments and much more. Please try to visit them on a regular basis to read the teacher blogs posts. Students will be expected to visit them on a daily basis.
