How fast are you?
Have you ever wondered how fast you can do something? Grade 5AB have been putting themselves to the test each morning at the beginning of their math classes. The first activity is a multiplication speed test that lasts for 2 minutes. Each student has a sheet with X multiplications on them. With a partner checking they are correct they read out the answers as fast as they can after doing the sum in their head.
As many students have shown it is possible to complete the speed test in under two minutes. The first day that the speed test is given out, some find it difficult. But later on in the week after committing time and energy to practicing it all students have beaten their time. Some students have even cracked the one minute barrier and are chasing the times of Andy and Clem, who currently holds the class record.
You too can have a go at the current speed test. This can be found in the lesson ideas section of our class web site.
