Today we started a new unit of inquiry - How We Express Ourselves. As a provocation activity the grade 5 students were divided into two distinct cultural groups and role played the rules associated with the made up culture. Here are some of their thoughts from our reflection discussion:
Why did we do this activity? "To get into other people's shoes" "We are learning about cultures for the new unit. It is related to out new unit." "To see how we reacted to difference" "To see what it was like to be with people that are different to us and to see how they interact"
Over the next few weeks we will be learning about lots of different religions and cultures, visiting many places of worship and researching what similarities and differences they have.

It was very funny when we did the restrant thing.
I have a chant for sports day. One person calls out "Who are we?" and everyone says "The Dragons!" and then "What do we do?" everybody then shouts "Win"

I thought the activity was sort of strange.
