I am currently working on a livestream of Lola for avid viewers to see her daily activities. You may even be lucky enough and find the test hidden on this blog post! Grade 5AB Raise 3,500 HKD!!!! 04/03/2011
Well done to everyone for running a very successful sale to purchase a hamster. The target was to raise 2,000 HKD to afford to look a. We raised a total of 3,500 HKD with more money still to come in from IOU's and another sale next week to sell left over stock. You can read the student reflections on their blogs. Here is a blog post from Jocelyn about the sale. Today 5AB had a second-hand sale to raise money for a class pet hamster. It took months to do research, finally it is happening! Our sale was outside our door and many people came to it! Our goal was to raise 2000 HK$. We had many things to sell; books, toys, games, etc.. We priced them and put them on tables outside. Classes and teachers started coming and buying. It reminded me of when I was on a cruise and there was a big sale. Almost everyone on the ship was there and we were very squished! Sometimes the sale was really busy! I was the money person and it was hard because everyone was handing me money and I didn't know what to do with it! In the end we raised 3,500 HK$. Even though we reached our goal we still have a lot of things left over. We are thinking of having another sale again next week! Thanks to the library, parents, students and teachers for making all of this possible! Preparing For The Sale The Sale Second Hand Sale 03/03/2011
Many thanks for all of the donations for the second hand sale tomorrow. We have over 200 books, not to mention, games, teddies and much, much more. Students will be in the classroom as soon as they are off the buses to set up our shop outside the classroom. There is a buzz about the school and our buddies had lots of questions for us today about how we will look after the hamster. Our buddies will be the first visitors in the morning, followed, we hope, by a steady stream of customers to buy our items. World Spelling Day still continues today. Jocelyn is top of the school leader board with 1,340 points, but there is still many hours to go! 5AB has over 4,000 points, but to even get on the leader board we need 8,000 and at the moment and the top placed class has over 21,000!! Wow! Good luck to everyone who has a go tonight! World Spelling Day 01/03/2011
We have been busy taking part in World Math Day online, which is not finished until the end of today, and along comes another special day!! Starting at 7 p.m. tomorrow night is world spelling day. Go to take part http://www.worldspellingday.com/ Second Hand Sale We spent time today organising our second hand sale which will take place THIS FRIDAY. All proceeds will go towards our new class pet. The sale will take place outside of 5AB from 8:45 until 9:45. Posters have been placed around school, an email sent to the elementary classes and a large money thermometer has been made ot help us keep track of our progress. Many thanks to all of the parents who have allowed old belongings to be brought into school. Top student scores so far Class Pet - A Decision Is Made 21/01/2011
After many class meetings, sharing of ideas and two great presentations, the decision was made to have a hamster as our class pet. Well done to the hamster group who showed their great research on the presentation which is embedded below and on their wiki. This was all student led action and they should be complemented on their commitment and quality of inquiry. The next stage is to take the idea and make it reality. We discussed all of the things that need to be done and came up with a list that is embedded below. We will use this list to organise us and make sure we all know what our responsibilities are. The students have been thinking careful about the money and the questions that we asked. One idea is to have a sale and raise money from that for the class pet. Stay tuned for more details. Research about a class pet 06/01/2011
Recently we have been talking a lot about getting a class pet. Currently we only have research from David. However, we have spoken about everybody being part of the process and taking action to help us find out the information we need to make an informed decision. We now have an action timeline. Between now and the 20th, groups will be researching and planning a presentation. On the 20th you will present them to the class, showing that you have considered the following questions. If these are successful then we may get a class pet. This is your chance to make this happen. Here are your questions: What do you need for the pet? What do they eat? How much do they cost? What environment do they like or need? Can you have one or can there be two? What should you put into the environment? What type of toys does it need? How much is the continuous cost of care? Does it need a lot of attention? Does it need to go to the vet? Is there a vet? How do we transport the pet? What happens to the pet on weekends / holidays? How big will it grow? How long will it live? | AuthorAndy Birch - Grade 5AB Homeroom teacher Blogging ideas, what can we blog about? Add your thoughts here
