Sikh Temple Visit - By Andrew 11/29/2009
Yesterday we visited the Sikh temple, it is on the end of Stubbs road, it was very interesting when we entered. Before we went we had to cover our hair with a bandana or scarf, anything that covers your hair. So when we entered we had to take off our shoes and socks and also wash our hands. Then we entered where people pray we saw two people praying when we were in there we saw more people coming and going. To show respect to the Sikh religion we stood in front of this little coffin like thing and we prayed to it and walked around it in a certain direction. When we walked around it a man gave us some sort of mashed up fruit that I can't describe and a fruit a banana or an apple. Then after that we went upstairs to learn more about the Sikh religion then after that we went down stairs to eat. What I really liked was the curry that they gave us but what I liked even more was that it was free I mean like anybody could go down there and have a meal then after that we went back to school and discussed it. Sikh Temple Visit - Erin 11/26/2009
Yesterday, we went to a Sikh temple at the bottom of Stubbs Road. Before we got off the bus we had to put on our head scarves. Before we entered the temple we had to take our shoes off, and wash our hands. First of all we sat for a little while observing what people were doing. After that we got a mushy sweet type of food and a banana/apple/orange, but first we had to bow to the dome and the box full of coins the people donated. Later we went into one of the classrooms and they told us a bit of the Sikh religion. I also learnt about the 5 k’s, but I forget what they are called I just remember the meanings! Once we finished there we went down to the cute little kindergartners and watched them for a little while. Then we had lunch. I liked the lunch, for lunch we got curry with rice and some pita bread (I think) and something else that was tasty as well! That was when our trip was finished and we went back to class! I really enjoyed my first field trip, 2 Comments | 5AB Students BlogAll Grade 5AB students will be posting on here.
