Field Trips Next Week 11/19/2009

Field Trips
Next week we will be visiting two different temples. On Monday we will visit a Hindu temple followed by a Sikh temple on Thursday. On Thursday you will need to cover your hair. This should be a head scarf for girls and some type of bandana or head scarf for boys.

Blogs
Keep writing on your blogs each night. You can read a great blog article about buddies in our class blog.

Bake Sale
Well done to the bake sale community who had another successful sale today. Their commitment is impressive, and I know a lot of students and teachers appreciate their hard work and cooking skills :-)

AIR and value / belief bags 11/13/2009

AIR
The rainbow serpent has finally risen from the depths of the art tables and now graces the ceiling of the art room. The full 12m will be unveiled officially on Monday during the final AIR day. Remember to dress up as your favourite artist! You can see extra links in the links section.

Parents are welcome to join us as we tour the different areas from 10.20 until 11.45 on Monday and view the assembly from 9.00 until 10.00.

Belief / Values Bag
Next Tuesday you will be presenting your belief / value bags. You saw four different belief / value  bags from your teachers today. Your bag should have no more than five items.

Blogs
Well done to Daksha and Omer for already posting their AIR day 4 blog posts! The third and final AIR video is available below.  Remember to visit blogs and leave comments. Check in the gallery for the embed codes for the video and day 4 for your gallery blogs.

Student blogs - now active! 10/13/2009
3 Comments

The student websites and blogs are now active. They are located under home on the class website. Student websites are all named in a similar way e.g. astrid's website is http://astridhkab.weebly.com

Each website is the students name with hkab added onto it followed by weekly.com

Students should access them through http://students.weebly.com/

All websites are protected by our class password. Each website has the same password to access it and students have chosen their own private password to be able to make changes. Please keep the class password safe and don't share it with anyone outside of the HKA community or your family.

Students will be focusing on the blogs to begin with, but will be developing their own website and can add pages and try out new ideas. Some students are even embedding the class newsletter into their website.

It is possible to keep track of changes to a blog by rss feeds. As a parent this will help you to keep an eye on what is happening on your child's blog without needing to visit the website. This is also how I am keeping track of them.

I have posted the blog / website guidelines that grade 5 developed below. Please take a moment to read them.

Grade 5 Blog: Guidelines

Tell the truth.
No personal information.
Be careful what you write.
Do not post things you will regret.
Be respectful to other people and to their opinions.

Grade 5 Blog: Things To Think About

Have I made good choices?
Did I think about this before I posted it?
Could I hurt someone with this post?
Is what Iíve posted copyrighted material?
Have I included textual references that support my opinion in my post?
Have I checked my post for correct spelling, grammar and punctuation?

Conferences
Dear Parents,
I'm looking forward to seeing you all on Wednesday and Thursday. Please take a moment to fill in a brief conference questionnaire form here.
Regards,
Andy

Blogs
Tomorrow morning the blogs will be turned on for all Grade 5AB students. The blogs will actually be hosted within the students own website that they will be creating whilst they are in Grade 5. The website is run on the same platform that this website is. I'm looking forward to what is produced! Keep your eye on the front page for quick links to all student sites. The password will be emailed out along with our guidelines to all parents and students tomorrow.

Blog Guidelines 10/09/2009

This morning the Grade 5 students worked on their blog guidelines. We looked at many different examples, of guidelines, rules, acceptable use policies and successful blogging strategies. The students shared ideas collaboratively and came up with group lists. These were then used to select the guidelines that you see below. Please take a moment to read these, both parents and students as these will need to be agreed upon before we start our blogging.
